Oh my, seems I’ve lost my height! Doc, please tell me, “What is the source of my plight?” “Tis true, you’ve lost three inches,” she said to me. But doc, “How could this be?” “It happens after menopause, you see.” “Well, pshaw! That’s a fact unbeknownst to me.” “To make matters worse, your bones are quite fragile. You’ll no longer be quite as agile.” “I have a solution. It’s easy-peasy, you’ll see. I must remind you, though, it won’t be free.” “Daily injections in your tummy for two years are the recommended cure. The medicine rebuilds your bone; of that, I am sure.” “Doc, I am distressed, for my trunk sits heavily on my inside. My once flat tummy now bulges, a fact I cannot hide. And my waistline is most certainly gone. I’m angry, Doc, ‘cause I have the urge to pee all night long.” “Nothing I can do about any of that, my dear. Old age and gravity are the source of your ire. Acceptance is my advice, let me make that perfectly clear.” “But injections? Are you sure, Doc, and for two years! What’s a gal to do? Shrivel up? Fracture her spine? Break a hip? Become humped? No thank you!” Seems I must accept my old age infirmities and these old bones. Aging and osteoporosis are my plight. Now, acceptance, injections, rebuilding my bones, and standing upright have become my new fight.

Yes, time seems to be our enemy in our old age. We start to fall apart and oft lose our memory too. Best we eat healthy and pray we are blessed to find the courage to carry on i life. God bless you.

so true, Robert. Time does seem to be our invisible enemy. Our bodies and minds seem to have their own agendas :-) I, too, believe in courage and faith. Thanks for stopping by. Sara

Well, acceptance is hard, but sooner or later, what's the alternative?! ... Interesting, I've lost almost five inches of height already, even without menopause. (Maybe I've got just 'pause.') ~ Gershon

yes, acceptance is hard, but one must deal with the new 'normal'....five inches is a lot of height. Losing height does give one 'pause' :-) I always appreciate your wit and humor. Enjoy your day, Sara

Hilarious -- age has not effected your writing ability...unless, having more to say and better able to say it has somehow become a minus. I think, especially for those who have been physically active most of their lives, have worked at being strong and healthy, aging is particularly disliked. Blessings my friend. This was a real hoot to read.

Glad you found my poem a hoot, Joe. Thanks for reading and commenting. You're so right...being strong and active my entire life, I've found aging a challenging pill to swallow (pun intended). But swallow and accept I must. Best wishes to you as well, Sara

This is a subject not many write about, but should be, especially menopause, the challenges and the confusion and struggles that come along with ageing and having to go through changes, should be read by many, as it is never easy any sort of health issue or change. You’ve written such a profound and powerful too, write. I felt this. Sometimes young adults too go through osteoporosis, ive seen some family members do. Sending you light always

Loved your poem Sara and I can totally 100 percent relate to what you are saying. It’s a funny poem but I know exactly what you’re experiencing. We could add more to our list of woes, couldn’t we! Thank you for sharing. Really enjoyed it. Here’s to healthy bones for us all. Blessings.

Hello Sara, Your poem of aging health decline certainly resonates with many poetry soupers - me included. Senior fitness with light weights does help with bone density. Calcium supplements can be beneficial too. I hope that you meet your challenges with success + that your pen flourishes for years to come. Be well. Brian
