Inspired by The Lovers (IV), 1928 By René Magritte Lost in a moment Unconcerned by all I don't know There is no embrace, though there is connection The sharp angles align to place a single kiss In a dreamscape that is simply surreal The surrounding rocks and mountains fade away Held in a spotlight as a vision of beauty I hold myself close, recline into this reality Shrouded in red for danger You and I ghostly pale On waking, I'm unclear where I reside or rest I feel cold, perhaps I am fashioned of quartz Made to forever slumber amid the mountain mist A deal made for a solitary kiss 9th place A Brian Strand Premiere No 1220 Poetry Contest 1st June 2023 Sponsored by: Brian Strand

Wonderfully painted DD! Love the way you introduce and re-introduce classic artwork to me through your ekphrasis! Saw an exhibit last night I think you would love. It is called Bouquet d'Arte. Masterpieces are recreated in floral arrangements. It is an annual floral extravaganza! Thank you for your wonderful poems! Blessings! :D"

Thank you, I wrote it and then thought of the last three lines whilst walking the dog. Quickly checked what rock might fit the imagery and it became a better poem :)

I guess that when you have something important/interesting to say, it is good to keep the language simple and let the images evoked, speak for themselves. The final line is attention grabbing (to my mind).

Thanks Suzette - I was afraid I'd used too straightforward language for it to be poetic. I appreciate your kind words

Quite an intriguing story you have wound around this painting...your splendid imagination at work again. Like.

Thank you Paul, I appreciate your kind words. It's fun to spend a few minutes with a painting and see what narrative emerges.
