The Anteaters High
The anteater’s on a high
sniffing formic vapors, that’s why.
With long drafts up his nose,
they float clear down to his toes.
But sniffing’s not enough,
he eats as many as he can stuff.
Satisfied he drifts away to sleep,
a need he feels quite deep.
If another creature ate an ant
it would get on fire, that I grant.
For formic acid has a sting and bite
that screams and pains incite.
But the anteater is not affected
and is, in fact, protected,
for contained in formic acid
is a natural ant-idote or ant-acid.
