The poem is below...

SLD - Specific Learning Disability

When I was 6 I started
having troubles in my class
So they decided to give me
a test to see the problem I had

Found out I had SLD
I always had issues
understanding certain questions
taking timed test and so on

I always felt like I
wasn't the sharpest
tool in the shed
Like I was stupid

I was bullied in school
for having SLD
because we weren't always
in general ed classes

Sometimes even my poetry
is said not to be poetry
because my thoughts are simple
and I write about what I
can understand

Having SLD can be very
frustrating and annoying
It can be stressful too
I try not to let it get to me

Sometimes it is hard though
but I just try to think postive
and have happy thoughts
I just have to remember
SLD is something I have to live with

I agree, Robert, it is a touching write...and a sincere and heartfelt one at that! My very best regards, Julie. :) john P.s Poetry is not intended to make "Sense"...we are all just trying to make poetry out of what we do not really understand--without the "Not Knowing" poetry would have no real purpose. Just my opinion. :)

A touching write, Julie. Don't let anyone tell you that your poems are not really poetry. Your words convey real feelings and touch the reader. That is what poetry is about. Thank you for sharing this.

I have tears reading your poem, and having worked with children with additional needs I know how they struggle in school and are targets of bullies . I know you work with children with learning difficulties ... if anyone can empathise with their problems it is you - Bravo for speaking out Julie - you should have this poem put up in your staff room at work:-) hugs jan xx
