Shoelaces
You used to tie my shoelaces,
But now you tie my heart in knots,
Because I know who you are now-
The rose tinted glasses have come off.
Open your eyes and pay attention,
And the truth shall be known to you,
That the superheroes of our childhood
Are so inherently flawed behind the mask,
That as an adult, I see them for villains.
This is what you have done to me, I think.
I miss the simplicity of coming to you so that you could tie my shoelaces,
So that I wouldn’t fall.
But it is you who has tripped me;
Sent me tumbling and crashing to the ground;
Picking out the asphalt is not the same as picking up the smashed fragments of your facade.
