Sea Glass

overdosed happiness found in the in-between haze dullness removed ocean froth masking the rising bile that dribbles down my still smiling face like deadly phial, I'll thrash 'til I splinter yet still I'll glint in the sun emptied comatose, I tumble grazed in the free fall to land in the leaden sleep I forever fumbled for post-choice: poisoned from powder licked off smooth sides until crossbones ripple on tongue cobalt cyanosis then infinity of blue grey salt cleaning out scratches until picked up and pocketed prize of damage is obscure beauty finally handheld, as sea glass

Dear DD, the power and purpose of your intriguing imagery and metaphors cannot be denied. Sometimes a pensive beauty can be found after the ugliness of emotional/physical upheaval has settled. A rich, vivid, thought-provoking piece.. amazing! Congratulations for your win in Craig's contest. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Congratulations on your win, DD! Your poem is almost like an ekphrasis of a painting whose subject is sea glass with bold, sharp imagery! High fives and hats off to you along with many blessings! Masterfully done!

Thanks Sam, this one required quite a lot of work - mostly in the form of discarded early drafts. I'm actually near a famous sea glass beach at the moment and hope to visit before I leave. Thank you for your kind words

"In my life, why do I give valuable time To people who don't care if I live or die?" Smiths-love that line. I had to research sea glass as I've never heard of it. Favorite is the last stanza. Love this winner. & faving

Thank you so much Anaya! Yes, it's a great song and I also love the fact the song feels slightly unfinished - they could have spend 5 minutes longer in the edit, much like myself haha. I like that it demonstrates pristine poetry (lyrics) doesn't equate to credibility as an artist - artistry takes all types :) plus I did dive off the drunken haze line to create this as I'm sure you spotted :) thank you for the fave and the enthusiasm x

I enjoyed reading your "WIP Sea Glass" write. Like the glass bottles/dishes put into the sea. The sea makes pretty sea glass out of it. A life can turn around into a pretty life for all to see. "Good Luck" We both did this one. Have a great day..................

This poem travels against waves to it's final destination. I enjoyed the subject and its rhythmic flow.

I was so caught up in this poison bottle idea that it hadn't occurred to me until I showed my poem to someone that bile on chins wasn't everyone's idea of poetry. However, a trip to my comments has spurred me on. Thank you for your enthusiasm :)

I always thought “comatose” was a beautiful word to use altho not many do and youv used it here to depict such deep emotions in the most profound manner! Brilliant write dear dd, i dont know the song but sometimes i listen to sonatas and concertos and get inspired too: great oceanic wordplay. And love your use of colors .I really love this prompt as someone that finds peace most when snorkeling and swimming: i might try this . Best wishes for the contest.

Poets pull from the in-between and comatose is one of those planes, the word is always wrapped in sadness but there is something intangible there that has an almost beauty. Thank you for commenting, I appreciate the support x
