The inspiration for this poem came to me the morning I walked through our neighborhood.  I looked up awestruck at the sight of at least ten hot air balloons drifting by in the clear September sky.  Such a wonderous sight!

Let us ride in a hot air balloon, Drifting along the currents of air Painting the sky with dashes of color without a single care. Let the canvas swallow the hot air from the balloon’s flames, Lifting us higher and higher towards the clouds, wispy and light, Taking us across the sky where we’ll see wonderous delights. Let the clouds gently kiss our cheeks and Climbing towards the sun, letting it bathe our skins in gold, Seeing picturesque sights untold. Let the mountains stare at us with envy and awe, Knowing that we are no longer landlocked as are they Watching us, our colorful globe drifting towards a nearby bay. Let us be the adventurers of which others speak, Doing things that others dare not do-- Being ourselves and, with one another, nothing but true-blue. Let us be a fairytale, Telling a tale of weird and wonderful Logging our colorful adventures in life’s journal, always being insightful. Let us ride on the currents of love, Letting life’s ups and downs carry us to new heights, Holding onto one another until our final goodnights.

thank you, 'Ink,' for your beautiful and supportive comments. You have a knack for making me feel good about what I write...and I appreciate you! I, too, have often wondered what being in a hot air balloon would be like. I wee bit afraid of heights, though. Not sure I could handle it. Thanks for faving my poem. May you have a blessed day. Sara
