Pained
My head hurts
Though everyone's head hurts
It's jack knifed stalks of eyes pain
With oh so careful precision slicing of brow
I am resting I suppose
But so guiltily that my shoulders hunch
A breeze keeps tending to me
Trying to bring me round
It was there as I drove home
Lifting leaves off trees like little billet-doux that flutter past missing their mark
"Somewhere in the universe is a kiss for your forehead" it whispers
I'm in an almost half dream as the bedroom curtain billows
Trying to offset my own narrative with some invented affection that may ease my aches
It makes my pillows feel softer
I'm in the drift that pulls to sleep
Neck bones slotted together like wattle
Two realities one of brick laden gravity
The other levitation
Maybe this is a relived moment of past life pain
Or maybe I just have a headache
Pain thresholds are a funny thing
As is any level of tolerance
There until it's not
No breeze now
The window is closed.
