Our Deepest Desire

In times of old I’ve heard it said, That all roads led to Rome. Now like the beating of distant drums, Our hearts are leading us home. It’s not the things that we possess, That reveal what we deeply desire. It’s a longing for peace and serenity, To which our spirit doth aspire. Returning to the source of our creation, Giving up this existence in form. To be in a state of eternal Love, Where the Source of creation will calm every storm. With ego we created this deceptive illusion, Hiding our authentic self from all. Unbeknownst to us, our truest self, Has been answering destiny’s call. For all the answers to all the questions, In their time will miraculously appear. When we’re at that place where there’s no time, Where all thoughts are perfectly clear.

Good Morning Bill. Hi. This is well conveyed and expressed. I can feel a deep emotion that makes us pause to think about life and all that it is not to mention the powerful and big word of peace to which is my saying these days because that's all I want. I don't want possessions any longer I just want peace. This is wonderful poetry of inspiration that reads very smooth. Have a wonderful weekend. Blessings always (smile and peace to you)

Hi, Bill. Thanks for gelling us your bio. I. Was just writing a letter to another poet. The world is quite evil right now to put it mildly and as I understand it, God plans to end thd Earth anyway, one day I wonder what’s taking Him so long. With Satan everywhere in every corner, even see it in the poetry, which affects me a lot… maybe you can answer the question? Why doesn’t God end the earth today….. Pangie

The Bible says, " no man will know the time", but God isn't through with what us yet or we wouldn't still be here. :-) In the end, Love will win ... decidedly! Thanks for the comment and visit, my friend. Have a great weekend! Bill

Bill, this is incredible. I am remembering the silly saying from quite some time back "The one who dies with the most toys wins" I guess that attitude qualifies as a mask of ego... I haven't seen that phrase in a long, long time. We certainly can't take our masks, nor egos home, best to lay them beside the road that leads to home. This is so deep. Are you a pastor? This poem speaks like a teaching.

I was a licensed minister when I was in my 20's, and have preached a while at an Assisted Living Home. I also was a public school teacher for 20 years, but am retired now. Your thoughts are on track about me, BJ. Thanks for the visit and the comments, my friend. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

Every single line of this poem is perfect, Bill. We are witnessing and experiencing the calm in our "homes" that you illustrate so succinctly but occasionally, we advance outside in our masks of self-worth and quickly discover what is more indispensable.

The void within we try to fill with material things, but the only thing we need is God. He is our "peace and serenity." Your thoughts are beautiful and uplifting, all at the same time. Many wonderful blessings to you, my dear friend. :) Hugs, Brandy

Love this poem, Bill. Even though we see and experience the peace in our 'home' that you describe so well, we(I) step out once in a while disguised with ego and quickly remember what's more important.

WoW! Bill, You often pen deep and thought-provoking writes, ones that cause the reader to think. Your writes are full of substance and so meaningful. I agree, the things that we possess doesn't reveal our deepest desire. It's more about life and its mysteries and the afterlife and etc. You wrote about those 'inner thoughts/questions so well. Excellent job. Have a great weekend my friend:-) Alexis
