October is one of those months that begin to transition and change to prepare for winter. As our days begin to shorten, this tenth month brings us those refreshing cool breezes. The leaves all around us are changing into beautiful, vibrant colors, only to fall to the ground, creating a carpet below. We hear birds sing as they begin their journey southward to find food, shelter in those warmer climates. When the rain begins to fall again, our lawns become greener. The rain also changes in the mountains, and the mountain tops are now covered with a fresh blanket of snow. How can we forget the new cozy fashion apparel that is beginning to appear in stores as it gets colder. Looking upward to the nighttime sky, it is beautiful. The sky above is filled with stars that are so clear it almost seems you can reach up and touch them. It's sad to see there are no social solutions for the homeless, they are gathering together in camps to stay warm and share food for survival. The aromas of holiday pies, turkey in the oven, chilly recipes, and stews from garden bounties fill the air, stimulating salivary responses. Pumpkin spice latte is one of the most loved drinks, along with something like a Pumpkin Spice White Russian are popular for the season. Halloween, which began as a Celtic end-of-summer festival, has become October's finale. Edward J Ebbs - October 23, 2023
