Entirely made of us, yet somehow not
a part of us, how can you even be?
Why can’t we feel your thoughts and dreams, and what
are you if you are neither him nor me?
Though severed from you, somehow we feel tied
to you, as if they’d never cut the cord,
We started you, you grew and kicked inside
my body, and besotted, we have poured
all hope into those perfect, tiny hands,
For reasons only love can ever say...
Yet loving you won’t help us understand
your world; you are a universe away.
You’re so much more than we can know or see...
You’re perfect sense, yet total mystery.
