Mother

The latent potentialities Presented by my preoccupation Of being a perfect mother My perceptions of all others So skewed to positivity Predicting they provide perfection So I'm in pursuit of levels of Presence and productivity That possibly are pressure I don't need Instead of perceiving accurately The places my parenting practice is already something to be proud of Perspective is a wonderful thing The pragmatic approach can be practical Showing proactivity with partnership Permission to be imperfect Is also of prime importance For them to be perfectly patient with themselves My own provisos for personal preferences Is that I am present and perceptive Play is prioritised and love is promised always I take a pedagogical approach and Try to promote resolution to problems Poised for perpetual peace of mind and self belief Writing Challenge - 'M' Words - Poetry Contest 18th March 2023 Sponsored by: Constance La France 3rd place

Thanks Wen, I wrote some rambling thing way over the word count at first, then decided to start from scratch with the word potentialities - which intrigued me. There is a Mum at school who makes out everything is perfect all the time from their Christmas elf to getting their third choice of high school. I'm definitely not perfect, but I'm doing alright at the job. Thanks for your feedback

Ah, the ambivalence that resides in the mind of a mother, DD, so well articulated! This is a poem that goes up on the bulletin board to remind mothers of their eternal struggle to balance their desire to be perfect mothers and then taking satisfaction in their efforts!
