My dad was an avid fisherman, often arriving at the lake in the predawn hours. He loved watching the sunrise and called it his 'Morning Reverie."
dawn by the river
daylight has barely arrived,
mist dances gently
morning reverie
how perfectly the songbirds
fill the silence
the sun is his clock
accurately keeping time
has the time he needs
old flat-bottom boat
his rod and torn fishing net –
father’s calloused hands
sensing the currents
casts his line into water
waiting patiently
he gazes into
river's shimmering water
his eyes stay steady
before the line breaks
he sees the fish’s white belly
reels it into boat
