Full Hunter’s Moon is one of the names Native Americans designated for October’s Full Moon. The Dakota Indians named October’s full moon as ‘Drying Ice Moon’ while the Cree called it ‘Migrating Moon.’ The Anishinaabe tribe, interestingly enough, named it ‘Falling Leaves Moon. Many tribes kept track of time by observing the seasons and lunar months, although there was much variability. For some tribes, the year contained four seasons and started at a particular season, such as spring or fall. Others counted five seasons to a year. Some tribes defined a year as 12 Moons, while others assigned it 13. Certain tribes that used the lunar calendar added an extra moon every few years to keep it in sync with the seasons. *(The Farmers Almanac, 2023)

thanks, Ink, for your visit and for your kind comments. My dad (who loved Native American culture) often told me about Migrating Moon. I think of him whenever I see a full moon. Glad you liked the teacup line as well. Have a wonderful afternoon and evening, Sara

Dear Sarah, great information on the moon. I grow old and learn. Yet the interesting haikus are a wonder to read. They display great imagery. Well writ. Blessings.

Awesome haikus Sarah. You're so good at those. I've always been fascinated with the so-called Blue Corn moon
