Manischewitz Blackberry Sangria Chèvere’ Manischewitz wines are made and bottled under strict Rabbinical supervision of The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the mark of quality that signifies adherence to Orthodox Union guidelines This sweet, fruity wine is bursting with the essence of Freshly harvested dark, ripe, and juicy sweet blackberries This has been a family favorite since I was a small child My great grandfather Gustavo from Spain had always served his own masterful rendition, of the Jewish drink at holidays He called it his very own masterpiece “Jugo De Passion De Christo” Manischewitz Blackberry Sangria Chèvere’ is what I called it A magnificent taste, always savoring the flavor of every sip~ Article In the 1940s, the enterprising owners of the Monarch Wine Company, based in Brooklyn set out to create an affordable kosher wine to sell to the one-and-a-half million vibrant Jewish immigrants who settled in New York City the previous few decades New York City’s Jewish population peaked in the 1950s These immigrants were looking not only for a better life in America but also, to practice their religion freely This meant they’d be looking for a kosher wine Monarch saw an opportunity to be the player in the market For the first twenty or so years of the wine’s life Manischewitz was a brand known only by the Jewish community Everything changed in the 1960s when the “Man, Oh Manischewitz” commercial starring, Sammy Davis Jr. premiered He sang about how wonderful the wine was The commercial and phrase became a viral hit Apollo 17 astronaut Gene Cernan was recorded during his spacewalk Saying “Manischewitz, look at that go! Did you see that?” During the Apollo mission it was reported that Cernan often used “Manischewitz” as an exclamation or as a substitute for swearing Today, Manischewitz wine is made by Constellation Brands It is still as ubiquitous as ever on festive holiday tables My family still serves up my proud great grandfather Gustavo's Jugo De Passion De Christo, Manischewitz Blackberry Sangria Chèvere’ bing.com *translation chèvere’ meaning cool *translation Jugo De Passion De Christo meaning The Passion of Christ Juice Written 8/1/22

Wow...and I thought Manischewitz only made matzo's (lol) Great write, Anaya! My mother's parents were one of those Jewish immigrants in Brooklyn. My father's parents lived upstairs from them in a two-family house. They were Italian immigrants. I love the education! I love blueberry sangria! Salute! Charlie

This took me back to some big family holidays; my Mom always served Manischewitz. We had aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., at the house for those holidays and more food than we could all eat. Thanks for a great memory. Beautiful.
