unbelievable last ball game he’d ever see grand slam ball for dad Took my dad to a Yankees vs Texas Rangers game Grand slam home run to tie up the game I caught the ball and gave it to my dad. He passed away before the next season started That was the last game we ever saw together. The only Major League game he ever saw. It was a dream of his. He was astatic when I caught the ball.

Touching and very sentimental. One can only imagine how you and your Dad felt when you caught that ball. Well done, Bill.

This is so touching and so heartfelt to reminisce the times you’ve spent with your dad and your last time doing something you both loved. May his soul rest in peace and love. And he must be proud of all that you are today. A kind soul you are. Sending you light always

My father-in-law was a grounds keeper for the Texas Rangers from 2000-2010. I have so many memorabilia items from when he worked there. Sadly, he passed away in June 2023. Time spent with dad...it's a beautiful thing, my friend. My brother Joe who passed away 10 yrs. ago only went to 1 baseball game in his life...it was the game when Jim Bunning pitched a perfect game against the New York Mets..(my team) go figure. Great poem, Bill. Your friend from NJ, Charlie

How cool, to see a Perfect Game. I worked for the Rangers from 1986-87. Lived in some condo across the street where 8 of the players lived. Was good friend a few of them ... shot hoops for money and made more than I did at work. lol Thanks for the comments, Charlie. Have a great week! Bill

Love the format of your senryu and the white space afterwards. Seems to let us see that ball flying away. Cool memory! I’m sure my dad would like to see the Buffalo Bills win the Super Bowl…here’s hoping! God bless you!

Oh, Bill, this brought tears to my eyes and a large lump to my throat! You said so much in a few words - a beautiful, heartfelt, story. Would love to see you turn this into a haibun with your prose story first followed by your senryu! It is so touching. Your love for your dad comes through like sunshine in a rainstorm. This reached out to me on so many levels not only the beauty of the story but I am an inveterate baseball fan having played in high school! Blessings my friend. Thank you!

Thanks for the comments, Sam. I did tell Sara, right after I posted this, that I should have made it an haibun or a longer form poem. My dad and I played ball together when I was 16 in an adult Baseball league. We both loved baseball. Glad to see we have something in common, (High School baseball) . Have a great weekend, my friend. Bill
