I Leave You the Best of Myself

“ I leave you the best of myself.” From a movie by Antoine Fugua No! No trophy, but my deep, inner thoughts. And tales of a sparkling family, that cannot be bought. Never famous, that I surely have no hopes to be. However, of being fully human, I am truly and joyfully, guilty. I don’t participate in poetry as the Olympic Games. Please recall just a few,as a painting within a lovely gilded frame. My poems, please, do not baptize them as good advice. Honesty and gleeful integrity, please, let these qualities suffice. We are unaware…….if this very day, might be our last. Pen then, with truth and beauty and to all God’s Commandments, hold these fast. 5/31/2023

Linda .. oh, my, what a gracious comment. This is the best poem I ever wrote, in my opinion. It sums up what my poetry centers on.. truth and heart. No I am not the best or most liked poet nor am I popular. Nor do I want that.being a good person is most important The other quality is learning more.I dislike the human body being made a tawdry joke. Poetry Soup is not a pub ..just heaven help us don’t write it here, Pangie xx.

Hi Paige, I hope some do. I really don’t want insincere comments, all the comments to this poem are touching.people that have shed with depth to this one. Thank you,this poem made me rethink future writes, my poetry is not here to receive applause, to wow or tickle anyone. I want it to be like the calming purr of a cat… and when called for, like the roar of a lion. Anything but mediocre I have penned too many of those. Merci, Pangie

Dear RJ.Thank you! With utmost humility, I agree with your comment.unabashedly. I am surprised many of my best friends here avoided commenting.I think it is stellar. And would be willing to destroy all my poems here in favor of this one. As far as I am concerned, this proves to me I am a poet of note! I will never write to be popular here nor a winner. I know that’s odd….but I must give credit to those who are not phony friends…that stood bye when I wanted to leave! I did not allow anyone with black hearts. drive me out! They tried. You've never been afraid to speak up for wrongdoings, be it about China or the unborn. I too write about injustices, some things you just can't sugarcoat and it's a shame others don't too. I suppose it' makes for an easy life to look the other way. Tom

Many people.ok the other way. Worse. Blame elected officials. We both speak out. I dared to speak about wrongdoings here and in doing so, was socially assassinated! I do not like that but what is life if you are a fake? As for news? You need to know they are in cahoots with the worst leaders, most of them, may they burn in hell the lot of them.we Poets do not understand our power. It’s not easy to look the other way. Rarely do I think I am hot stuff.)) well, I am not.I s write about meaningful things to me. That’s one, powerful quote It silences the voice to win, it opens the door of the heart to serenity. Poetry was never meant to be a race track. The destruction of classical poetry to have a poem form named after me is untenable This cheapens poetry. ..that is how I see it. I explained it all…all in the poem. I. Have much to learn.
