On the morning of August 30th, 2023, Hurricane Idalia slammed into the "big bend" region of Florida's gulf coast.   In Greek mythology, Idalia, ironically, means to "Behold the Sun"

Hurricane Idalia, Behold the Sun You come stealth, in the quiet dark of night, With a calm in your eye’s grey steely gaze. In your bosom, you carry a walled up ocean, Waves on waves of towering unending water, And your relentless march of dooming winds. Oh Idalia! Meandering and honing your target. In the clouded dark of night, you set your sights. An when dawn comes, we must meet your wrath. You block the new days sun and turn day to night. What lies buried in your blind vengeful demeanor? You flash us your big and rounded eyewall lashes, And we seek comfort inside those deep mystic eyes. But in your wake, we are swallowed by rising waters, And we are swept away with but a wisp of your finger. What on earth can we get to know from all your rage? In the silent dawn hours, Armageddon safely passed, We behold a new day’s sun, lighting your destruction, And we will question all that is left, and all that is not. We will find out too, who is left, in our ravaged world, As we sift thru the flooded rubble of broken dreams.
