How I lost my empathy

So much treachery in Gaza, I've lost sight of my own empathy for Hamas's victims, and the tears I shed when I first heard the news. October 7th is now an ocean away from my memory, filled with horrifying images of Gaza on fire, of the countless cries of children, and the inhumanity of the West's complicity. Truth is, my memory too is a casualty of war's insanity, and my pen agonizing how to depict the calamity of this war? Once a disproportionate, grievous injustice is leveled and collective punishment ensues, it's easy to be drowned in your anger, with the faces of dead innocent staring at you and screaming why? Gaza had been bleeding to death for years, and now comes the final solution, in the name of self-defense, to annihilate a whole nation with impunity. Once a state commits such heinous crimes, you lose all your balance, your empathy. We live in a global village now and once a part of village is burning, the culprits have no where to run. Dear God, help us find our center again! For every irreverence, reverence, for every bomb, a kiss of kindness, for every mass grave, a bouquet of flowers, for every stab at humanity, Mahatma Gandhi remedy.
