Hold the Tears

Admiring the chandelier I see echoes of the beauty of tears The path they take down the cheek When the mask of make up Redistributes into a new form and shape That highlights pain rather than Painting over it As so many painters find their muse Capturing a beautiful solitary tear So evocative you can taste it Salt water that stings the face Clouds the view How can tears be ugly? When you see emotion Presented with a chance To dry the tears with an ounce of humanity The beautiful human capacity To provide true comfort The restoration of both souls Not with words and logic But with empathy, expression and connection Free Submission Poetry Contest 3rd April 2023 Sponsored by: Sotto Poet

Do like the image of a chandelier...hanging in glass tears. Gave a lovely light to what follows in the poem. Moving.

Edit: I got the light joke btw! Thanks Paul, I'm still so unpolished with my poems so much of the time so thank you for your kind words about this one. There was a chandelier but no tears at the time of writing :)
