He Gave His All
signed documents
a new start
to make something
of himself
a passion project
incomplete
no longer needed
a purpose served
a sketchy business
ran by snakes
usurped and ignored
he gave his all
and all he gave
begging and pleading
for a change
like a squeaky wheel
to balance his life,
and relieve the stress
grease forgotten
causing the wheel
to rattle, an upset
rider battling unknowns
at one point useful, yet
no longer worthy
cast aside as if
he hasn’t everything
passion gone
confused and betrayed
by a machete
lodged in the back
co-workers, once friends
all is no more
for underneath the mask
were enemies
a deep sense of loss,
a loss of faith,
two years wasted
at the hands of snakes
