Golden Years - My Foot
It’s funny how we look at things from different points of view.
We hear the same expressions, yet, so often, me and you
Look at things quite differently, and this is good, I guess,
But just today I heard a common phrase, and must confess,
Since we’re growing old together, we just might agree,
“Boy…I must be getting old,” applies to you and me.
Though “old” is somewhat relative…a concept that depends
On when one feels the “fun” in life seems rare…or actually ends,
At least we can agree on how the aches and pains increase.
That backs, and hips, and joints of every kind…especially knees…
Start to go to pieces, and the doctor bills go nuts,
And you and I are povertized by all those “you-know-whats”.
Prescription strength arthritis pills…that cost a dime to make…
Run as high as 15 bucks a piece, and so you take
Only what you need to “live”…the cost just makes it worse.
It’s sad to know the most expensive thing inside your purse
Pays for doctors’ mansions…with their pools and tennis courts,
But gives you things like diarrhea…flatulence…and warts!
Yes, it’s clear…our bodies fall to pieces as we age,
And often, as we’re made to sit and stare in silent rage,
Doctors never seem to care about the souls who wait,
And…“He’ll be with you shortly”…is a phrase I’ve grown to hate!
