You can draw me in
But I'm always in the blank space
The void of "just stepped outside"
Though my hand could rub the ink
Maybe I'll sit staring at stained fingertips
Proving I was there, made an impact
Even changed the scene
It's all illusion, I just cast a brief shadow
Then returned outside
Kept the retinol image
And the sense of longing
Everyone else stepped out
Just through the door
Took their music with them
Though it lingers in the smoky air
Got into my lungs, as I breathed in essence
We can orientate all we like
Discern up from down or indeed west from east
We can't lay on the ground, it's too cluttered
There is a need to stay upright
Wearisome though it is
Should we ever flip it, it's a hole in the ground
And we are in the space above
With all that clutter falling in
But the music went that way, remember I told you?
It might not be so bad to lay down and rest
But not yet, I need to wash my hands clean
Stand in spaces where I'm visible
I can see the lines are blank
I'll try standing in all four corners
Maybe where I was stood held all the light
But I've had my back to it
Or maybe I'll just look up
Where it's a clean sheet
Draw outside of the lines
With my smudgy fingers
Then stare at it a while
See what I created, for myself
Judge it on its merits
Even if it sits alongside - too much clutter
