Flicker of Love
Not a wildfire,
not yet a steady glow,
but a fragile dance
of light and shadow
in the corner of an eye.
A shared glance,
lingering a fraction
too long,
a silent question
hanging in the air,
unspoken, yet felt.
A small kindness,
unexpected,
a hand brushing another,
a warmth that travels
beyond the skin.
A memory resurfacing,
unbidden, sweet,
a ghost of laughter
in an otherwise quiet room.
It could be nothing,
a trick of the light,
a fleeting fancy
easily extinguished
by indifference
or the wind of doubt.
But for that brief moment,
a flicker insists,
a tiny ember daring
to believe in breath,
in the possibility
of a larger flame.
