Evolution -- Not the Greatest Show On Earth
or
The Other Brainless "Design" in Default of a Design
"In and of itself bad, Pain alone has Objective Value for
all conscious, feeling beings --
both human and nonhuman --
explaining why no such being wishes to be ripped apart and eaten alive."
-- the Realist,
a conscious, feeling being of Reason

For every tiny sparrow in its nest,
still several nestlings fallen to the ground
not being yet by Nature dispossessed
a moment brief rest safe, secure, and sound;
for every baby elephant unharmed,
another calf naively having strayed
discovers while alone and full unarmed
a pack of teeth come circling in to aid;
for every cub with Mommy in its lair,
this little lionheart is overpowered
or drowns when summer skies decline from fair
or slowly dies by parasites devoured;
for trapped here in the wild as one survives --
the Horror on a host of children thrives.

the Pain of trillions of sentient beings daily tortured
a revolving helios sonnet shakespearean satire menippean on
the popular, sentimental, romanticized notion of
"Mother Nature"
