Dangerous Game
He reciprocates the vibe
But he shouldn’t,
They tell me,
If he’s not serious.
They tell me this softly,
In confidence as they smile.
I return it sadly,
With the thought that they’re right.
I know he reciprocates,
He’s said so himself.
But they don’t know
That I know.
They don’t know what we’ve done.
He’s not serious,
Because he’s said it before.
‘You should be single’,
‘We shouldn’t date’,
Passing comments
That stay in my head.
Everyone’s caught on,
But I play it off cool,
Knowing he’ll kiss me
But do nothing more.
It saddens me then
To know I’m not enough.
But rather be told
Than chasing him down.
He’s feelings are elsewhere,
So why should I care?
We’re playing a dangerous game
And getting caught
Is where I draw the line.
