Contemplation of Divinity

What do you suppose is the best of gifts, bestowed upon us by Divinity? I’ll say, thought, to ponder infinity ~ For in contemplation do spirits lift as one bears witness to all that’s divine in nature’s miracles of creation The more one learns, greater’s the perception this order cannot be random design But there is an error I think most dire the presumptuous claim that we can mirror the most infinite and magnificent Did our lives so short fill us with such ire? From ancient days we’ve denied this horror inventing gods from us no different Inventing gods from us no different Egos huge and utterly blasphemous This concept of god I find horrendous, to claim we glean the almighty’s intent! Let’s take for a start, one of our measures In dimension of time, can you conceive Never-ending, forward always, it weaves. No beginning, receding, e’er further… Now dream of a star, vastest and brightest The whole universe, IT, encompasses It would have to be infinitely far For its light and heat would be the fiercest All we get, is its gentlest caresses Must remain unseen this most radiant star! Must remain unseen this most radiant star! This lesson shown by our very own sun Mediocre, and already half done Yet, on us all, it breathes life from afar Solar system it holds and keeps centered While we circle around, our lives in sync To behold its full glory, our eyes blink So they are not blinded by such blunder How then, can we remain so arrogant? How fast we forget it was the church, That thought the sun should revolve around it? Why have churches remained so dominant? Holy books public, yet little self-search Gathering in temples, we sit and sit… Gathering in temples, we sit and sit… Dreaming of heaven, while preachers collect Moneys to purify the soul correct To keep the candles and incense alit The pomp and grandeur most contradictory To what I’ve heard of what the prophets preached Be humble! Be simple! Most did beseech Seems we heard an opposing oratory! I say, toss those old manners of worship No need to don the finery falsehood Or kneel to preacher’s power-lusting pews Instead, go seek your very own flagship Learn as much as you can of what's good Find in creation, the ‘divine’s rare dew’ Find in creation, the ‘divine’s rare dew’ Its wonders, enough to fill ten lifetimes In nature, go find perfections sublime Look, feel, understand the various views From microscopic to astronomic Keep delving deep and asking the questions Explore the most precious of intentions And you’ll receive the kiss most majestic! Yet still, there are many who moan and groan With cynical voice, their lives so jaded Pompous egos who’ve seen it all! Folly! Experts proclaiming they know the unknown Scandalous sages with minds degraded Who dares to say they have seen most clearly? Who dares to say they have seen most clearly? Mortal beings wishing to be god proclaim, they know the real truth and all else is lame One prophet, and he’s the one and only! What of them that lived before this master? Are they still burning in imagined hell? Heaven so swell, yet we pray to stay well while quaking in fear of death’s hereafter Fear, it seems, is the conquering hero We arm ourselves and secure our borders What reason this fear? Have you hurt others? Rapes of earth by divine manifesto! Ill-got riches amassed by rank hoarders Stark denial as there dies a brother… Stark denial as there dies a brother… Where are all these most righteous religions? Churches, temples, and mosques in all regions Grand displays of greed, while truth they smother To nurture your soul, seek joy from within Discover the best machine, your body! Love its physical and mental glory Keep it pristine, so divine can seep in Worship with trees and see true sacrifice Daily providing air, food, and shelter Without them, we’re naught, yet we fell them swift Animals, like us, hurt and bleed. Thick twice, lest you stay one. Oh human, do better! What do you suppose is the best of gifts? (2/26/2016 – A repost of an afternoon’s thoughts while learning the different forms on soup: I started at A and worked to Z…this form almost stopped my poetic journey cos it was so long and I still haven’t worked on its meter!)

I have veered from my youth's path and whether my new beliefs be wrong or right, I know in my heart that a loving God would never subject his children to flames of hell fire. Maybe metaphorical ones in which we feel the pain of the pain we caused others. However, that said, I truly believe we are all going to a better place!

so have I and when you consider the strife we call life, death is a better place. As to hell fire, it was a church tactic to get more people which means more moneys for the coffers of the power hungry priests...

I was going to go past this one but decided ok, I will read it since my friend took so much time to do a crown(I've not yet tried, I just hate long poems) In any event, a big congrats to you for doing it, Susan. And I totally get where your poem is coming from. One CAN believe in a creator and at the same time, question religion and question many other things we have been "taught" to believe simply for the fact it's all in a Bible.

Thank you Andrea I literally had to study the various holy books as part of my enforced Sunday school regimen thru my elementary and high school years and so much of what the holy books said just conflicted with what I saw in real life that i decided then we have to find out for ourselves and never rely on someone else esp now we are all educated and able to read and write

I stopped by to read this last week but realized I'd be here a while and hadn't packed a suitcase. So I've made the necessary preparations and here I am. Very deep, a piece that really spoke to me as a lot of your meaning is something I have experienced first hand. This read loud but not deafeningly loud, just a raised voice making a point that some will hear and understand and some who do but won't admit it. Well, I only had reservations for 3 days so I must check out now. Nicely done Susan.

Your thoughts are magnificent Susan. "To nurture your soul, seek joy from within Discover the best machine, your body! Love its physical and mental glory Keep it pristine, so divine can seep in" and altruistic too! Happy New Year Susan.

Thank you, Caren...I'm afraid I fall short in keeping my own pristine as I do imbibe more than I should and know I have damaged the brain cells I was given. Each New Year, I try again to keep what's left functioning a little better! Best wishes to you :)

It was a couple of hours one rainy winter afternoon...I believe when I read the examples, I thought is it even worth it? but I had set my goal so i had to and well, i think it shall be the only one I will ever write of this form lol Thank you SO..I am sure there are some errors in the iambic meter but that will be smoothed out eventually when I have the patience to sound out syllable stresses :)
