A Time of Rebirth

"That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." – John 3:6 (KJV) I. In the thin early April mist, she went Planting the seeds of the lotus flowers. For days, the rains continued their descent From the sky, and how slowly passed the hours. When her reflection rippled in the breeze Over the water in the month of May, She saw how the seeds had begun to grow. As she began leaning down on her knees, She moved the golden sedge out of the way, Watching the buds all sprouting in a row. II. The warm summer days in the month of June Caused the young plants to grow up even more. Tadpoles swam around the shallow lagoon, As lily pads were drifting towards the shore. Each stolon found its soil as the weeks passed— A blazing July heat then spread throughout The land, and she worked hard to quench their thirst. The cruel heatwave then subsided at last— The gentle rain brought an end to the drought, And their yellow petals began to burst. III. The humid days of August brought along An increase in the tasks of her cropping. She walked towards the flowers humming a song, And worked all day and night without stopping. As the weather cooled into September, Mother Nature had fostered their granting, And had raised them with the wind in her voice. The woman then took time to remember How she had labored during their planting, And watched their yellow petals with rejoice. © 2021
