A Day to Appreciate

On a cool, breezy day, the type I find invigorating, my daily to-do list beckoned me to get started with my household duties--but these would be left waiting. That day, efforts at such mundanity would’ve been halfhearted. I dressed in an old frayed flannel shirt and jogging pants. Water, pen, and pad in hand, I started down a familiar trail where enchanting woods require more than a glance and I always hear a robin and see at least one shy whitetail.* Stopping just short of the path’s first sharp bend, I rested on the tree trunk seat I’d come to consider mine. “Lingering leaves of gold frolicked in the autumn wind” as I wrote of how Nature and poetic expression align. *deer
