I use my thumbs to pry my dog’s mouth open
when he is chewing hard plastic or a pair of glasses
they are also used when I want to open or shut doors
pull a dresser knob, use a fork, knife or spoon

I cannot imagine how worthless my hands would be without them
They are imperative to grasp turn

Thumb screws its way walking a straight line down the middle of the road hitching a ride on a new page no road kill here life’s a breeze surfing open minds along the torturous wake with all the sweet things

In Awe of Ednas Green Thumb

gorgeous African violets
pink, periwinkle, and the deepest purple
yellow centers and dainty dark green veined flowers
we were in awe of Edna, for none of us could grow them

My Green Thumb

There was a time when only weeds survived
My green thumb as I tended soil and seeds
Plants so stunning, my nurturing deprived
Of the sunshine’s love, the sprinkling who feeds
Only mom’s gentleness and grace revived
The lingering of the droughts and the weeds
Bringing grace to the soil with kind showers
Healing my plants so they would bring flowers

Over time,

Thumb Sucker

A grown man sucking his thumb
Was laugh at and called a bum
He couldn't believe
The hate he'd received
And though those people were dumb

No Bigger Than God's Thumb

One day just like that she began.  A little smudge no bigger than God's thumb.
Forgetting old bones and scarred memories she was born one early March.

Normally Rule of Thumb

Thinking can overtax the active mind
Thoughts flood the strata of the cerebrum,
Where’s vital information one should find
Cannot locate a fact, one feels so dumb,
Something that is normally rule of thumb.
Moments before on the tip of the tongue,
Much we have forgotten, since we were young
To be forgetful is so frustrating,
Suggesting needed synapses are sprung

Bite My Thumb

If Thou attempts to lend a foul touch of façade after dumping me in the pitiful pits full of gravel that Thou so soullingly buried me in. 

Than I shall rise with glory & spit on Thy’s shoes.

To be translucent against Thee rafts and struggles of evil, 

As for evil is sensing karma’s grand shovel

Thumb

You think you beat me? 
Think you've won?
Got one over?
Think I'm dumb?
Think I'd fall back?
Cower down?
Hide in my corner?
Mouth shut head down?
Think I'm finished?
I've just begun
You pin me down
I'll break that thumb
I'm rising up
Im on my way
I've got options
Don't have to stay
I won't be anchored
Will not be stilled
Done with settling
Unfulfilled 
I'm soaring, weightless
One with the

Green Thumb

With green fingers the gardener worked
Hence the garden thrived and perked,
Ironically when blueberries collected 
Thumbs were stained from fruit selected.

Thumb Struck - Dk

Oh, the pain of getting a thumb struck
Is not overshadowed by feeling dumbstruck
When a car door is slammed on a finger
There is no logical reason to linger
Taking a pain pill as soon as possible
In this case is perfectly permissible
Soaking in ice is always helpful, too
But I don’t know what else to do!

Yes My Thumb Is This Green

Give me a trowel, seeds, a straw hat, and a boat load of dirt.
Dump it into a fierce pile, and I will throw myself onto it.
Hugging it like a California hippie hugs her trees.
Hire me a tiller and let me make friends with the earth worms.

I will plant potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce, peas, carrots and beans,
daffodils,

Ow My Shoulder

I’m so sore
Up off the floor
Tripped over the dog gate
Fell against the crate
Reached to stop my fall
Slammed my thumb in the door
Stubbed my toe on the gate
Shooting pains, oh just great
My shoulder sore to the touch
And my toe went crunch
Watched the blood pool up 
All around my thumb
I hobbled over
To get some water
As the sink

Writing a poem with only my thumbs
Opposable digits are A-number one
Will autocorrect fix the words I write wrong?
Not all words are lucky as I coax them along
My phone keyboard clicking as I’m typing the words
Now back to correct my fast-thumb-spelling turds

How long can I go with these poor thumbs of mine?
