Values

"Doctor! Engineer! You ought to be that!"
"Whatever you want to be! Give it a spat!"
Why every parent always says this,
And gives our wishes and desires a miss!

When i was brought up, i was told,
"You are free to make choice of your
own!"
Growing up, I then realized,
Almost everything told was a lie!

Slowly i reached puberty,
Understood things more clearly,
Again found myself trap,
On other's wishes in a gift wrap.

I didn't knew then, i was thinking wrong,
To do something, i felt i belonged,
Aspiring to be what i wanted,
Still the thoughts of my parents always
haunted.

"You have to be what we want you to be!"
"That's the best your life would be!"
"We know better than anyone else!"
"Your ideas and thoughts are wasteless
cells!"

At this point I began to wonder,
Whatever lessons they taught me,
In the course of time did it fade?
Or reminisce of it still prevailed.
"To make a path for what you dream,
To strive for it and chances to redeem,
And become someone you are proud of,
Instilled with values you were taught of."

Now is the time, everything changed,
Listen and agree is the main way,
And no other path will lead to success,
Disagreement will only give you a mess!
Why to began with all this then?
To imbibe these values and hopes again?
Dont pinch someone who heads for high,
Forever to believe that dreams can fly.

Quit the values we are taught,
To live a life in a cage to be slaught,
Or have the heart to follow it,
And let us also be a part of it,
Its all the values that ll help us in life,
Not the safe path to save us from knife,
And then we ll learn the meaning of living,
Values of happiness sharing and giving!
