Amazing Dilly how painting can cover over a persons inner pain, even if it’s only transitory like the twilight, unfortunately the darkness got him eventually, I think this one shows that he was a kind gentle soul if nothing else, I’ve never seen this one before, it’s quite thought provoking, just like your wonderful senryu, cheers David

It is beautiful, despite being less detailed than others. His emotions, regardless of whether there are figures in a painting, seem to reside eternally in the paint. This one was perhaps a touch of escapism for him. Thank you for your comment, appreciated

Ah van gogh always inspires you to write such beautiful poem and this is no exception! I do look for a lot Of van goghs art but never seen this one! So stunning! And your senryus is just gorgeous! I especially love the last line in this! “ pain painted away” i believe thats what he did , and he did beautify pain too on so many levels! I know this is a short one but this definitely deserves a fave from me! Love it

Thank you! I'll pocket that fave lol. I saw the painting on the daily paintings site I subscribe to (loads I use are from there) they find so many lesser known ones. I was going to write something longer but then saw Tania's contest and it seemed to fit perfectly :) thanks for your insightful comment

What a lovely painting! The sun and the moon seem to infuse. The clothing us just perfect and love that the lady’s right hand is up, perhaps praising God. Indeed, I’m certain, that Van Gogh painted the pain away, at such times. Blessings

What a beautiful observation Kim! Then the outfits are moon and sun colours too :) so much twilight is captured and so much mood conveyed. I love your interpretation :)
