The Thing From The 50's

The husband was the perfect dad,
his wife would seldom fuss,
whatever went awry at home
you never heard them cuss!
Remember all the clothes they wore
and never saw them twice?
Their wardrobe closets must've been
a clothing paradise!
The father, with his charm and wit,
was quite a dapper guy;
no matter where you'd find ol' Dad,
he wore a suit and tie!
The mom lived at the kitchen stove
all day and half the night;
yet, when they sat to eat their meal,
they never took a bite!
The couples lived a sheltered life,
unlike today's co-eds;
instead of cuddling up at nights,
they slept in separate beds,
Their world was lacking contrast,
wreaking havoc on our sight;
the only colors in their world
were dismal black and white!
That era has left far behind
a long-forgotten race;
the one that spent a half an hour
with fixed smiles on its face!
The sponsors were tobacco groups
who kept their secrets cloaked;
you never heard of Cancer then
'cause everybody smoked!
If we could patent their resolve,
we'd all be drunk with power!
They always had their problems solved
within just half an hour!
And when the shows came to a close
to end the fun and laughter,
Just where did they pretend to stay
six days before and after?
