forever forward motion yet we feel swept off our feet all of it is true of course just as the mud is picturesque from afar we see the distance thinking, if I could just get there then the mud slides underfoot the trees look away reach out instead to the unseen nothing is solid enough to keep me upright nor soft enough to cushion my fall an idea to scramble, change track I should, could but never will as there is a transparency to me filling me with shame, I am little more than a wisp making out I somehow understand how I get out of here there is so much beauty and possibility in this when viewed from far away but close up it really does not look that way

I really think there is magic in every brushstroke. Emotion is stored upon the canvas. Thank you for your kind words x

i liked this one a lot - of course, i couldn't see the painting when judging, but as always your writing conjures some intriguing thoughts and concepts..perhaps a tad more imagery would've seen it score higher with me, but i enjoyed the read very much - congrats on your win in my contest!

"there is so much beauty and possibility in this when viewed from far away but close up it really does not look that way"..... What a stark truth. There is beauty when looked from far, but as we come near, we realize with a shock that the grass is greener only on the other side. DD, I am in awe of your ekphrasis !You have surmised so much from this painting ! A profound poem and into my FAVE.

your poem captivated me with its uncertainty...and relating that uncertainty to viewing a painting...I always find I get a clearer understanding of art and many things by stepping back a few paces. Have a pleasant evening, Sara

The view changes dramatically depending on where you stand in life and art. Perspective can be deceptive or enlightening - both at the same time in some ways. Thanks for your comment x

Mud, formerly known as muck! A fantastic poem that slips and slides. As usual, you write about an odd subject that entrances in its form.

Thanks Hilda, I love Edvard Munch paintings - I could write several different poems on any one of them. Glad you liked this one - you're right, not a lot of poetry about whether mud looks nice up close or from afar x

This one is for me about irony and uncertainty. I read it a few times and recognize it as a deeper than me poem . I love the last few lines most!
