no one wins in the snapshot all those tense muscles that petrify in situ efforts to move - ineffectual where is the finish line? and what's the point? this journey is featureless the mode of transport stifling so I try and outrun it blood rushes through my veins momentarily yet here I am - still - no before or after just the intolerable moment of going nowhere realisation that even if I made headway I'd be met at the end put back in my alloted space this is my frame, after all don't mistake my determination for someone who has a chance - I'm going nowhere

Dear DD, though you capture the visual aspect of the painting, the strength and depth of your thought-provoking emotion and imagery allows this brilliant poem to stand alone. I especially loved "I'd be met at the end / put back in my alloted space / this is my frame, after all" -so clever.. which leads us into the fatalist's finale. Congratulations for your success in Brian's contest. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Thank you for your insightful comment Susan. I was aiming for that very fixed moment in time snapshot with the feel as well as the words - I'm so glad it came through. Your words of encouragement very much appreciated, thank you

So much horsepower and horse sense in this super Ekphrasis Dilly, I do wonder how on earth Magritte came up with the concept though, maybe no one’s winning or going anywhere fast in the rat race, not absurd as it seems, small comfort in knowing you’re not alone, brilliant, cheers David

Thanks for stopping by for this one David, a quick write before I went to sleep. It's tempting to think Magritte painted anything, but they always seem so clever when considered a bit more closely. Kind words, thank you
