Squelch

I heard the squelch of death again - or was it just a neuron firing deep within my boggy brain, or possibly a cell expiring down amongst a mucus mess? It could have been my heart perspiring (that may be a thing I guess), or, deep down in the adipose, the squealing of a fat-lump pressed to serve as fuel, and I suppose it might have been a small mutation - “Pop!” (we get a lot of those), a bronchiole’s sharp inhalation, “Hiss!” a membrane’s gooey breath, a bile-duct’s bitter salivation... Probably, it wasn’t death. 29 Mar 2019

A hypochondriac's poem for sure. This was wonderful. Glad to hear it is not death (probably).

Yes I’m still about, and I wrote this about 4 weeks ago so it almost definitely wasn’t. But it might have been :-) Thanks Jesse!

How fun. I'd never considered terza rima to be suitable for silly verses, but you make it work. makes me want to do your contest :)

Ooh, do it Agnes. I had never tried the form before at all, and I found by keeping the lines short-ish it was actually a great form for fun poetry because the interlinked nature of the tercets can give you a nice pace, both in reading and writing! I’d have kept going for longer if I hadn’t run out of weird bodily noises!!

Very nice, Nina, different.. I need to get off my comfort zone and try it.

I started to highlight my favorite parts, and realized I had highlighted it all. This is so wonderful to read, as I thought it was "just me", but did not ever know how to say it like this. It is on my FAV list now.

I’m also tickled to have used “adipose” and” bronchiole” in the same poem lol!

Thank you Caren! So glad you enjoyed this - definitely the poem I’ve had the best time writing in a long time!

This is so off the wall entertaining that I love it. It's cute and playful, loaded with personality and originality. The older you get the more of these 'type' of poems I hope you'll write - the body does some strange things after many decades have worn it. I always enjoy your creativity. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Yes, I was totally tuned into my weird inner workings but, ironically, was writing the poem on an iPad!
