draft written on an exercise bike listening to Queen and Slade as I let Spotify tell me what I might like...

There is no glass container, no ultra-clean preservation. Even if you've only sat on the sill, my belief about knocks varies day to day. Let me paint myself ~ my purest self ~ the one never damaged by unintentional hits and scuffs, the one that, every evening, was put perfectly back in place, prepared for the next day, where light shone on me and all that could be beautiful. When I rest, let me do so peacefully, and when it's time to test what I have, let my mind believe in my dexterity. Let me start now, for on close inspection, maybe perception is everything.

The big question, what is true reality Dilly, even if this beautiful painting was a photograph, it would still have limitations when zoomed in on, and become mere pixels, that’s exactly why they try to smash up the tiniest quarks in the LHC, in an attempt to find out what is the underpinning nature of everything, I personally believe consciousness and perception is all there can be, without which there would be nothing, and why we are always alive from our own perspective, you certainly push the readers marbles to their limits and beyond, I’m on a unicycle and juggling as I type, and why this comment won’t make any sense whatsoever, except to maybe you, brilliant musing as always, Cheers David

What a great night in the pub this was lol "you're brilliant, no you're brilliant!" echoing round haha some thrillingly interesting points you bring up there Mr Kavanagh, taking my pondering to new depths by your engagement with my thoughts as usual. Looking closer, closer, closer always flips to standing back to take it in. Once again the idea of knowing is reduced to a split second before it's all change. Of course the distractions of the juggling, unicycles, handstands and pints of Guinness may play a part too. Thank you for the food for thought (and fun!) comment :)

No fisticuffs? Day by day may bring changes of how we perceive others, this is true. We diagnose as a second nature it seems. Your rep. intact Dilly. I may reach out and grab a marble, it's that clear. Does it make a difference on a bike? I'm standing on my head as I type this, lol.

Haha I took a minute to figure out the bike reference, then remembered that was me :) I'm not sure, I tend to go on the bike after I've done a class and before I start another workout. So I'm dosed on endorphins most likely. I did my first handstand in decades today but so far I've not figured out writing poetry standing on my head - there's still time lol

The picture looks like it's a photograph. It would look great as wall decor. I enjoy the questioning style of your poem.

Thanks Hilda, the realism and perfection was what I found quite mesmerising in this one. Glad you enjoyed it x

It's my thinking that perception counts but maybe shouldn't. It's like first impressions. Someone or something is perceived as beautiful or not, as good or bad, but that's superficial. Some people blow off reading a poem at first glance because it's too long or they don't comprehend the first two lines. That's a mistake. My thoughts are rambling...

I was thinking of self perception in the main, maybe not everyone's the same but my inner critic does overtime... First impressions can take a while to be overcome it's true. I'm a rascal for not reading longer poems Lin haha thank you for your comment x
