I'm a Star

Once I was just pieces of dust, Then I fell, Gravity of my sadness changing me, Tears fused me together, And now I am who I am today, A light to many worlds, Once broken pieces, But now a star.

Hi Lilian! Congrats on third place in my contest with this deceptively simple poem that paints such a wonderful metaphor - that a star, the thing we associate with brilliance and eternity was once just sad, broken dust. The poem is nicely balanced - it could have been cheesy but it isn’t - and I feel like it’s a poem I need right now when I, like many, feel a little broken. Congratulations!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I actually researched stars being born and was surprised when they were just dust that fell in a flux of gravity. So this immediately wrote itself, my past as my pen and the words as my brain.

Hi Lily, I enjoyed reading your star personification today, and wish you well in the contest. I like 'gravity of my sadness', very powerful. Hope you're having a great weekend ~ John

Thanks John! I had an awesome weekend! It was very tiring though and I wasn't able to get on and post anything.
