I was you

Dark dank alleyway Damp mist night I saunter the streets Nobody in sight Damp smells, & dew drops Lamps do make the way I’m walking the cobbles Wishing not to stay So cold, so hungry So dirty, so blue So tired,so hurt I don’t know what to do Daylight comes, “please a penny” “I haven’t any just go away” Shamed face, black nails I once was you now I’m a stray No hope, I need a bed Just a night to lay my head To have a wash and start again Let it be you not me instead Would you change places See how it feels See the blood seep from your heels Walking round in circles now I can’t continue I don’t know how!

"I once was you"....A coldly cynical but truthful picture you paint here Angela. If I look in their eyes I can hear them saying it.

I’ve seen many a homeless person being badly abused here in Liverpool uk. Hence I appreciate my warm bed and think and feel for people in this situation especially like tonight here as it’s so cold
