He died

Drive away
Angry and bitter
Our anniversary

You haven't even slept
You are not yourself
Tomorrow

My husband
We will talk later
Things will be better then

But they were not better
You'd fallen asleep
At the wheel

Instantly
You went off the road
Blunt force trauma they said

No brake marks on the road
Air bags did deploy
You left me

A widow
It shouldn't have been
You were awake too long

Things could have been different
If only I'd known
It's too late

I was harsh
I told you to go
I'm the one who killed you

Tanis: I hope this is not you? The poem went straight for my throat. I feel the pain, the guilt, the nagging doubt of what if.
