I'm pretty impressed with how beautifully
the paint peels from the sparkling post box,
how grass is iced into uniformity,
the edges of leaves highlighted so I can't forget the world is magic
although, I'm mesmerised by a stripe of fluorescent paint too,
the way a 'for sale' sign tilts but doesn’t give up,
pockets of warmth following underground pipes ~ making shapes on pavements
the huddled insides of the shrubs protecting each other
bin lids /half in the sun/ glittering with frost, melting into gloss for high-shine contrasts
and me, wearing grey earmuffs I got to twin with my daughter for the walk to school
that I decided I love
~ and my very best gloves, bought the day we went ice skating
