Creep in Wolves Clothing

Said a newly ordained minister to a most distraught parishioner: Dear lady, I couldn’t help but notice your discomfort throughout the service, your face ill-at-ease, at times in shock in contrast to most dead-pans of the flock? If I may, I think I understand your pain, so allow me here and now to explain. Traditional christian theology is no longer as valid as it used to be. Modern scholarship and research have forced radical changes to the church, brought new light and understanding to primitive beliefs long standing –. a blind and well-meaning tyranny that has controlled millions to its slavery. Our goal is to free this orthodoxy to a new and liberating modernity and freeing it totally of the original – in short, to one pure and unequivocal! Then and only then will we be liberated from empty beliefs long antiquated! Sunday school Bible stories, for example, are far more fanciful than historical. Adam, Eve, the garden, the forbidden apple the talking serpent – all colorful but fable. True, we accepted them without question but only to escape eternal damnation. Now you can listen and enjoy a homily and never have to believe it literally, though some may at times feel I’m at fault. If so, just accept me with a grain of salt. Only don’t despair or panic. After all, it’s not as if belief in a God were vital.

I am imagining her horror-stricken face and smiling. "Adam, Eve, the garden, the forbidden apple the talking serpent – all colorful but fable." Wow! So funny.
