Dear Bill, I adore your wonderful haiku honoring these cute little creatures. I like how he “struts across the beach sand”! Such an endearing image!! And such a great word “struts” to personify one so small who now feels invincible! A splendid poem my friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Thanks for the visits and comments, my friend. I relate well to the crab and its vulnerable. Having attended sixteen schools, in twelve years as a young person, I repeatedly experienced the first six week at each school and the settling into a new situation (shell). Always the smallest child in my class (boy or girl), I developed a bit of a strut once I got my new friends and felt comfortable in my new (shell). Just like the first six weeks here at Poetry Soup ... I just don't do much strutting around here. LOL Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

Thanks for the comment, my dear friend. In life we all have our periods of vulnerability like the crab, but it usually last longer than the six weeks it takes for the crab to grow a new shell. Have a pleasant weekend , my friend. Bill

Bill, imlike this. Was actually thinking this past month about getting a pet version — a hermit crab, . This poem, actually love,y and to my mind, vert metaphorical, haschelped my thinking. I know many people who won’t risk shedding their shells even to grow newer, stronger ones…. sally, sending hugs

Oh, this is a new information for me ! Probably the crab and the snake know the meaning of the biblical saying.... 'Peal off the old self in you and become new' ! Beautiful poem. dear Bill.

Good thought, Valsa. They both shed their skin/shell as they grow, just as we human must let old things pass away and allow all things to change/ become new. (or atleast the way we view them). Thanks for the visit and comment, my dear friend. It's always good to see you've stopped by. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

What a great metaphorical poem, Bill. You've captured what it's like when each of us decides to shed our old self for our new self. How many times, I've shed my old skin and felt vulnerable waiting for my new skin to develop. With patience and faith I emerge stronger. Great job!
