Bukowski and Kandel
I, a degreed empty-nester housewife,
for years battened down the hatches for family's sake.
Submerged in a podcast of Bukowski or Kandel
I lifted the veil that separated our kindred souls.
The smell, taste, and touch of their poetry delighted me,
and I longed to know their Truths more intimately.
Even with their bad breath and bare toes,
They were what some in society hated, and I loved.
So raw and uninhibited, they expressed true freedom,
something I was yearning for especially having
such strong convictions with outlook and attitude,
rather than play victim to the times.
Free-spirited, fresh, exhilarating passion submerged,
I sprang forward,
Continuing to listening to their poems and prose,
dreaming to be more like them and less like me.
