The Bridge He Crossed

Rain droplets kiss his face
as he walks over the same
bridge where they first met.

It has been many years since
he last saw her. The last day
with her had been a painful one;
they had parted ways then, a
decision he has since regretted.

The reason for their breakup
has faded from memory; a lie he
has forced himself to live with.

He stops near the bridge railing,
and closing his eyes he sees her,
the beautiful face that haunts
his dreams each and every night.

A tentative smile visits his lips;
how he achingly misses her!

As he continues to walk, he sighs,
and imagines the raindrops
falling on his face are the tears
they both shed that day.
