Beautiful Button
I bought some vintage unused buttons that had clearly sat in a sewing box for someone's lifetime and will probably do the same in mine, despite their beauty. So I could have used this time to sew them on, but I wrote a poem instead. Poor buttons...
Tiny dream so pure and real
Tidied up out of mind and sight
Held in my hand, to touch and feel
Whimsical object sparks delight
Beauty of pearl or ebonite
Perhaps of silver or of steel
You just need to be stitched on tight
Tiny dream so pure and real
Transform the plain to the genteel
Elevate good to dynamite
Exquisite detail of appeal
Tidied up out of mind and sight
To adventure you do invite
Persona you make surreal
Maybe shimmering in moonlight
Held in my hand, to touch and feel
A true understated big deal
The medals of the socialite
With you I'm never down at heel
Whimsical object sparks delight
A work of art in your own right
The attention you always steal
But you are hidden from daylight
Just waiting for promised reveal
A tiny dream
