An African Tale

broke is the spirit
and turgid the belly's bloat
with no tears to cry -
she is at her point of death
and a part of us will die

Thanks Jan. The Catholic church and others have billions of dollars sitting in tax shelters and hedge funds, and billions more in property and assets. What must God think!!

Thank you dear Luloo. No-one should go unhelped - especially a child.

Lovely and yet sad words to ponder. A part of us dies at the death of a short-lived life, missing the gift their life had to give.

this is great writing! I was thinking maybe an African wrote it! Although rhyming is frowned on in tanka, I rather enjoyed the rhyming of cry with die and most of all, the sad message this one imparts. Congrats in my contest.

Cheers Andrea. I did not intend to rhyme but I'm glad you liked it. Thanks again.
