The Christmas That Almost Wasnt

( The Christmas That Almost Wasnt )

Christmas was getting closer, Emma Lou was feeling sad
This year would be different, cause she wouldnt have her dad
He was far away fighting, protecting freedom for all kind
Emma Lou wiped away a tear, happiness was hard to find

The next day she was shopping, with her mom in the mall
Getting presents for family, the lines were best a long crawl
Her mom was getting worried , that her daughter wouldnt smile
So she got an idea, when she saw Santa Claus in the isle

Emma sat on Saint Nicks lap, all she could do was just moan
Santa asked her what she wanted, and she said Daddy to be home
Still a frown on her face, her mom and Santa didnt hear a peep
So they both headed home, so Emma could go to sleep

Christmas morning Emma woke, ran down stairs still no luck
She searched all over for her dad, but all she saw was a truck
Each present she opened, no horrays or a smile from ear to ear
Her mom felt so bad, just sadness is all she could hear

One present was left, a note said follow the arrows on the floor
The last arrow was in red, and read close your eyes open door
She opened her eyes, tears flowed but she wasnt at all sad
Cause standing in front of her, was her Christmas wish and Dad

Absolutely beautiful poem Gregory. Need to get some tissues....God bless all the men and women serving their country in horrid wars around our world, keep them safe and bring them HOME. Beautiful poem for all children, as well, at Christmas. Especially those children who have parents absent due to service in the armed forces. All countries. x Into my favourites. My father served Vietnam and was both Australian Army (Vietnam); and also served in the Australian Airforce.

Ty Lady L I enjoy doing poems that send messages. I always hope they are recieved to that 1 person that needs it. 1 poem could have 10 different meanings to 10 different people. A lot of my poems are very deep. I`m sticking around for a long time so you will have a chance to read them. Thanks again.
