Where should I safe sanctuary find
When the world outside appears unkind?
Others may find solace in prayer,
But peace for me must come elsewhere,
And some may keep in touch with friends,
But that on having some depends!
My efforts to avoid life's scars
Gives me a life among the stars,
I have for years studied the art
Of reading from an astral chart -
I have no interest in romances,
Those in love must take their chances,
I prefer the star-crossed clashes
Of shipwrecks and plane crashes:
And from the political scene
One may some astral interest glean:
Should one use it for detection
In America's election,
One might predict that its new boss
Has Jupiter his path across,
Not that good fortune can be sworn
From Jupiter in Capricorn!
Those who write detective series
In turn alert astral queries:
One will soon find their heroes' traits
Will correspond to their birth dates;*
My life is lived in isolation,
With heaven's map as consolation,
Poetry, too, gives satisfaction
As a personal distraction.
*Those of the authors - i.e. no astrologer reading the "Hercule Poirot" books would be in the least surprised that Agatha Christie was born under the sign of Virgo!
