Open Your Hand

Open your hand, my love, Scatter me, make me Starlight on the breeze, Dreams in the ether, Photons in awe-spattered eyes. For you are my breath now, My heartbeat, my sight, My hands, my life. And me, I am dust... Yearning for the wind. So let me fly, my love, Whirling, dancing and drifting One last time. Open your hand And I will give you the only gift I have... Release. 12 October 2018 For Lu Loo’s Free Verse Contest

Sincere congratulations for your awesome win in LuLoo's contest, Nina - blessings and best wishes - keep up the great work, my friend - this is exquisitely powerful and emotional - I love it - fav-ing! :-) <3 (I have a piece you might enjoy called 'Summer Rain' of a similar focus)

Wow! This really works-- re-read it 3 times just to feel the words roll off my mind--my highest compliment: I wish I had written it! Oh, and congrats on your win, Nina

it seems like everyone else had written such long poems. But you have proved that there is so much said in much fewer words. Beautiful in every single way sweet Nina, I always am honored to read your perfectly beautiful poetry. Thank you and congratulations on your placement. -luloo :)

Ah thank you Luloo! I probably set out to make this longer... but I got to what turned out to be the end and thought, “Nope, I’ve finished!” Delighted to be placed so well in this contest as I have no confidence in my free verse! :-)

Ah thank you Dean. Yes, I also struggle with free verse, and don't write very much of it. I always have to make it a little rhythmical (sometimes I REALLY cheat and make it VERY ryhythmical) because I can't really feel a poem unless it has a nice satisfying flow to it! I'm just terminally singy-songy...

Nina, this part really got to my heartstrings: "For you are my breath now, My heartbeat, my sight, My hands, my life." This is so true often. So very very very very true. It will resonate with thousands. Well done, as usual, my friend!

Just amazing - love 'I am dust/yearning for the wind' - I like the ambiguity of the ending, too-

Really, really good. This can be taken a few different ways and that is what makes it so great. I can death in this but also releasing a child to adulthood or even letting go of a lover because it is not working out. Really good Nina.

Thanks very much Chris! I'm glad you found some layers in it. I wrote it about one particular thing but left it open-ended for readers to take as they wished :-)
